For Eigen Haard, we have carried out a research (in Dutch) how can we use smart architecture to create better living conditions and to deal with loneliness of elderly people. Our study shows that mixing elderly with the different target groups has a positive effect, and the elderly will be again in the midst of society. Architecture can be used as a broad medium to bring people together.
Elderly care in mono-functional buildings is economically not feasible, because there are more and will be more future cuts by the government. In addition, the current method of care and nursing homes led to more loneliness among the elderly. The growing problem calls for new concepts, which on the one hand fix the isolation of the elderly, and on the other hand reduces the healthcare costs by creating new hybrids. Architecture is of great significance to this transition to a new standard. A standard that suits this time.
