Assignment

On contract basis

Due to a number of small renovations carried out over the years, this beautiful home had lost its cohesion. We were asked to restore this and to design a contemporary counterpart that included many of the manor house’s classical details.

This manor house, dating from 1900 and located in the Oud-Zuid district of Amsterdam, was modernized and its space re-allocated. On the garden side of the residence, we placed a contemporary kitchen with a large vide to create a linkage between the two storeys. The kitchen with wall cabinetry above on the ground floor transforms into a bookshelf with a glass gangway on the first floor, emphasizing the height of the two levels. Through the use of strategically placed steps, the garden connects seamlessly to the basement and the main floor, which creates a lovely, smooth nexus between interior and exterior and incorporates the garden into the experience of the living area.

‘Contemporary and classic go hand in hand in this manor house.’
